Histories of Dance Working Group Annual Symposium

The Histories of Dance Working Group is excited to invite you to our third annual symposium, which will take place virtually on Zoom on Friday December 5th from 10:30am-3:30pm EST. This year's theme is "the ABCs of archival research." Three panels will take you behind the scenes of the research process. The first will feature two archivists from the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts Jerome Robbins Dance Division, who will explain how historians of dance can use their collections. The second will explore different types of archives where you might not expect to find dance materials: university, state, municipal, and museum archives, to name a few. The third will take you "into the notebook" of dance historians who will share how they take notes while researching, organize their findings, and turn information from those documents into prose.
