A forum for the exchange of ideas among scholars and artists teaching or researching Latin American, Latino and Caribbean dance.

The working group is a forum for the exchange of ideas among scholars and artists teaching or researching Latin American, Latino and Caribbean dance. The group aims to promote and assess the development of this area of study, addressing the following questions:

  • What are the projects on which members are currently working?
  • What is the current stage of teaching and scholarship in the field of Latin American, Latino and Caribbean dance?
  • What are emerging topics, methodologies, theories and interdisciplinary approaches shaping this area of study?
  • What are the dance practices, dancers, countries, geographical areas and time periods that are receiving more or less attention from scholars?

The group also seeks to create opportunities for networking, collaboration and professional support. Members share information about resources for teaching or conducting research within this subfield of dance studies (news, job openings, sources of funding, residencies, calls for papers and conference panels, professional networks, libraries, archives, databases, periodicals, textbooks, websites, etc).

The promotion of links with scholars and artists from Latin America and the Caribbean is another goal of the group. Likewise, the group reaches to individuals and organizations working in areas that overlap with Latin American, Latino and Caribbean Dance, such as dance studies at large, musicology, anthropology, African diaspora studies, and gender and sexuality studies.

Attention all members of the Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Dance Studies Working Group! The new chair, Elizabeth Schwall, hopes to compile and maintain an email listserv to complement the wonderful Facebook page in hopes of facilitating connection and collaboration among members who may or may not be active on social media.
