This award recognizes the leadership of mid-career scholars the the development of our field. Mid-career is defined here as those who have published at least one monograph and/or large collection of articles and/or who have demonstrated leadership through teac

hing, mentorship, and collaboration. This award recognizes the nominees's holistic contribution to the field, rather than a singular project. This award is intended to recognize the potential for leadership in the field as well as its realization.

Nomination Instructions

The 2026 Awards cycle will open on February 1, 2026. Nominations will be accepted through March 31st. Reach out to DSA VP of Awards, Melissa Melpignano at [email protected] with any questions.

As this is a career award, it will be nomination based. Nominators should be DSA members, although awardees need not be. Nominations are welcomed from casualized scholars, emerita/emeritus professors, and independent artists and on behalf of casualized scholars and independent artists.

Email a letter of nomination stating the nature and duration of the nominee's contribution to dance studies, with an eye towards future work; the nominees curriculum vitae, if you have access to it; any additional relevant materials to support the case.

Submissions will be evaluated by the Standing Committee on Awards. Email to: [email protected] with Mid-Career Award in the subject line.

This prize does not carry a cash award and, as such, will include a gratis conference registration. Any financial award, including gratis registration, can be donated to the support fund for casualized professionals and/or for students. We realize that many leaders in our field are also major donors to our organization and that many senior scholars struggle with the same precarities as more junior researchers. As such, we leave this decision to the discretion of individual awardees.
